Cat Psychology & Cat Behaviour Training
Cat Psychology & Cat Behaviour Training
If you are struggling with behavioural issues at home, professional cat psychology and cat behaviour training can make a life-changing difference for both you and your cat. Our evidence based cat psychology services focus on understanding feline behaviour, reducing stress, and restoring calm in the household. Whether you are dealing with aggression, anxiety, inappropriate toileting, or multi cat conflict, tailored cat behaviour training helps rebuild trust and harmony.
Just like people have counsellors and psychologists, cats can benefit from different types of support. Human counselling is typically concerned with immediate and practical issues, such as processing grief or anger. Psychotherapy, on the other hand, focuses on long term treatment of mental health conditions and involves an in depth examination of a person’s psychological history.
Cat psychology is similar. As a Cat Psychologist, Jules recognises why a cat is behaving in a certain way, which allows for a much deeper understanding of the cat’s brain, genetics and natural behaviours. This broader qualification enables a Cat Psychologist to formulate a thorough behaviour modification plan, including cat training, that supports a stronger long term prognosis for changing undesirable behaviour.
Jules has always had a deep love and passion for both big and small cats. Her keen interest in feline welfare and behaviour drives her to explore the cat’s brain and psychological characteristics. She began her career as a Veterinary Nurse and founded her cat hotels Luxury Cat Lodge with one goal, to ensure the welfare of every cat in her care by honouring their natural behaviours.
Jules obtained her Level 4 Diploma in Cat Psychology with distinction, complementing her university degree in Social Justice where she specialised in understanding cat welfare, ethical care and justice for animals. This unique academic and professional background strengthens her ability to recognise the complexities of feline behaviour, human, animal relationships and the broader systems that affect a cat’s well being.
This advanced training has led to the successful rehabilitation of thousands of behavioural issues and the restoration of many cat, owner relationships. Nearly 75 per cent of cats surrendered to pounds are given up due to undesirable behaviours. With over 150,000 cats euthanised in Australia each year, it is devastating to consider that for the relatively small cost of engaging a Cat Psychologist, these numbers could be significantly reduced, or even eliminated.
Cat behaviour problems can have a profound impact on the family. Jules assists in modifying these behaviours and helps owners cultivate fulfilling, loving relationships with their cats. This often involves helping owners truly understand the cat they have chosen to share their lives with. Her expertise has been recognised by Dr Harry Cooper, The Cat Protection Society and other leading animal welfare organisations.
Jules is the former Director of Boarding and Pet Care Services for the Pet Industry Association of Australia and has also served on the committee for the AFAM Industry Training Advisory Body.
All behaviour problems can present in boarding or shelter environments. Jules can assist facilities and rescue organisations to identify, manage and improve these behaviours to support better welfare and adoption outcomes.
Anorexia or obsessive eating is often caused by an underlying medical condition, so it is essential to obtain a veterinary check first. Once a medical cause has been ruled out, a behavioural cause should be assessed. These issues can be complex and may require a detailed exploration of the root cause.
House soiling and furniture scratching are common examples of environmental behaviour issues.
The environment is often at the root of many behaviour problems in cats and must always be assessed when attempting to understand or resolve behavioural concerns.
All types of phobias can occur in cats, and these are among the most distressing behavioural issues to witness.
Examples include fear of a specific room, object or person.
